The voices keeping Main Street’s harmony alive

Disney introduces four performers carrying on the Dapper Dans tradition, including a son following his father onto Main Street.

Four voices, striped costumes and a reason to slow down on Main Street. Disney’s November 2 feature introduces four of the people behind the Dapper Dans, a Magic Kingdom tradition since opening day in 1971.

A family connection

John Barnick grew up watching his father, Don, perform with the quartet. Now a 12-year Disney cast member, John has followed him into the role. Don spent more than 15 years as a Magic Kingdom Dapper Dan.

Different paths to the same street

Jonathan Meadows found his opportunity at a Voices of Liberty audition during a college visit. Dirk Donahue grew up near Walt Disney World and has spent more than three decades performing. Michael Rodriguez, a classically trained opera singer from Miami, values the connections he makes with Spanish-speaking families.

Their work brings together singing, dancing, comedy and those distinctive Deagan Organ Chimes. The personal encounters matter as much as the harmonies. Disney’s feature has the performers’ stories and photographs, well worth a few minutes between park plans.
